The Mountain Trike wheelchair: from undergraduate to commercial project

For those of you who don’t know (where have you been!) the Mountain Trike all terrain wheelchair was born 10 years ago (wow time flies!) as an idea that Tim Morgan had during his final year design project.  Tim studied Innovation and Engineering Design at the University of Bath in the Universities Department of Mechanical Engineering. Reaching new customers worldwide has always been part of Mountain Trike, the all terrain wheelchair company expansion plans.  With distributors already in European countries such as France, Germany and Italy it was only a matter of time before Spain was added to the list. Mountain Trike announce Spanish company Greenvolt who specialise in the sale of mobility equipment and e-bikes will be responsible for Mountain Trike wheelchair sales in Spain. I was walking in Dunkeld a few months ago with Andrew in his wheelchair… I am a keen mountain biker and spend a fair amount of time in Dunkeld, Scotland, I love the place and so it’s nice to be able to share it with Andrew, my son who has special needs – developmental delay, visual impairment and epilepsy.  Adam Flint, who I know from Progression Bikes and the MTB community, rode past and stopped as he saw us struggling over the muddy, rooty trail. Mountain Trike, the off-road wheelchair start-up lays out dealer expansion plan

Mountain Trike, a start-up mobility company based in Cheshire, has outlined a strategy to sign up more retailers in the UK and global markets as part of its plan to bring its off-road wheelchair to more end-users. The company was founded in 2011 but only struck its first UK distribution deal in June this year with a firm in Exeter and now it plans to target a wider network of major and specialist retailers in the UK and abroad. MD, Tim Morgan, hoping to expand his off road all terrain wheelchair business Managing director Tim Morgan told AMP that when the company first launched it made the decision to sell directly to the end-user.
